BLACK LOVE CASE STUDY

Black Love — Where Intimacy Meets Design

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Project: Black Love Custom Wallcovering
Location: New York, NY (Condo)
Type: Residential / Custom Installation
Collaborator: NW10 Interiors

The goal wasn’t just to design a wallpaper—it was to create something that felt deeply personal to the client and the space.

The design needed to:

  • Integrate seamlessly into a refined New York interior

  • Add visual interest without overwhelming the room

  • Carry meaning beyond aesthetics

At the same time, the project had to navigate condo association guidelines and restrictions around wallcoverings, requiring careful consideration of materials, application methods, and long-term flexibility.

This wasn’t about decoration.
It was about creating a presence within the space—while working within real-world constraints.

THE CHALLENGE

  • The concept became Black Love.

A continuous line of Black couples—embracing, intertwined—capturing quiet, intimate moments of connection.

    Not staged.
    Not performative.
    Just real.

The intention was to create something that felt:

    • Soft, yet powerful

    • Minimal, yet emotionally rich

    • Subtle enough to live in a space, but strong enough to be felt

  • The design centered on linework and restraint.

    • Continuous Line Illustration
Created flow and movement across the surface, allowing the pattern to feel organic and uninterrupted

    • Negative Space
Gave the design room to breathe, ensuring it enhanced the space rather than competed with it

    • Scalable Pattern System
Developed to work across walls and ceilings, adapting to the architecture of the condo

    • Custom Integration
Designed specifically for the space, ensuring alignment with layout, lighting, and overall interior directio

  • What was once a neutral, undefined corridor is now a destination within the space.

The entryway:Installed in the dining room, the wallpaper transforms the environment.

What was once just a functional area becomes:

    • A place for connection

    • A space for presence

    • A backdrop for shared moments

The pattern doesn’t just sit on the wall—it lives within the experience of the room.

THE IMAPCT

This project reflects the power of design when it moves beyond aesthetics.

It becomes:

  • A conversation piece

  • A reflection of identity

  • A subtle but constant reminder of connection and love.

CLOSING

Because design isn’t just about how a space looks.

It’s about what it says.
What it holds.
And how it makes people feel the moment they walk in.
