FOREVER FLOWERS CASE STUDY

The vision for Forever Flowers was to rethink what a traditional luncheon centerpiece could be.

Rather than using fresh floral arrangements that would be enjoyed for a few hours and then disappear, Complex Flavors envisioned something more lasting—a centerpiece that could bring beauty to the table while becoming part of the story and experience of the event.

The concept explored flowers through an artistic lens, using form, color, texture and composition to create centerpieces that felt expressive and unexpected while still complementing the scale and function of a luncheon table.

Each piece needed to create visual impact without competing with conversation or obstructing the connection between guests. The result was intended to make the tables themselves part of the experience—giving attendees something to discover, talk about and remember.

At the heart of the concept was a simple idea:

What if the flowers didn't have to disappear when the luncheon ended?

That idea became Forever Flowers.

The design approach for Forever Flowers began with one of the foundations of Complex Flavors: original textile design.

Rather than sourcing ready-made florals or relying on commercially available printed fabrics, the flowers were created using exclusive Complex Flavors textile designs. Bold color, pattern and texture became the starting point for transforming a two-dimensional surface into something sculptural and unexpected.

Each rose and calla lily was constructed by hand. Fabric was carefully measured and cut into strips, then folded, shaped, layered and ruched to build texture, movement and dimension. Different patterns and color combinations were intentionally paired so that each flower could have its own character while still belonging to the larger collection.

The vessels were treated as part of the design—not simply as containers. Vases were custom spray-finished in gold and silver, creating a metallic contrast against the saturated colors and patterns of the textiles. Three different vase heights and depths were then used to create tiered and staggered compositions, adding rhythm and variation across the tables while maintaining comfortable sightlines for conversation.

From designing the textiles and determining scale, to measuring and cutting fabric, ruching and constructing individual flowers, finishing the vessels, testing heights and arranging the final compositions, Forever Flowers was a highly hands-on process rooted in both design and craftsmanship.

Every detail was considered—from pattern and color to petal, texture, height and vessel.

The finished centerpieces brought together multiple areas of the Complex Flavors practice—textile design, surface design, color, fabrication and experiential design—into one cohesive tablescape experience.

What began as an original Complex Flavors textile became something dimensional: fabric became flower, and flower became experience.

Once the Forever Flowers entered the room, the tables became more than places to gather—they became part of the visual experience.

Against the more neutral backdrop of the luncheon space, the bold colors, expressive patterns, metallic vessels and sculptural forms introduced an unexpected layer of artistry. The flowers brought warmth, movement and personality into the room, creating moments of wonder, curiosity and excitement throughout the tablescape.

The staggered gold and silver vessels created rhythm across the room, while the mix of Complex Flavors’ exclusive textile patterns made each arrangement feel distinctive. From a distance, the centerpieces created a colorful visual landscape. Up close, guests could discover the individual patterns, textures, ruching and handcrafted details within each flower.

But perhaps the clearest indication of the transformation came at the end of the luncheon.

Not a single vase was left on a table.

Guests connected with the centerpieces so strongly that they took the arrangements with them—extending the experience beyond the luncheon itself. What began as a centerpiece became something guests wanted to keep, display and take home.

And in that moment, the name Forever Flowers took on an even deeper meaning.

The event ended. The flowers didn’t.
